If the property is part of a condominium complex, you\u2019ll also need to obtain approval from the homeowners\u2019 association. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is also important to note that studies must be conducted in advance to ensure that the work will not compromise the building\u2019s structural integrity. An architect must certify that the structure is capable of supporting the loads. The terrace must also comply with seismic standards for high-rise buildings.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before beginning the work, you should also hire a roofer to ensure the roof is watertight. This involves installing a vapor barrier (to prevent moisture), a separation barrier (to keep incompatible chemical elements apart), thermal insulation, and a roof covering (to protect against extreme temperature fluctuations and harsh weather conditions). <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other safety measures: installing a guardrail. The guardrail must be at least 1 meter high, or 80 centimeters if the guardrail is more than 50 centimeters thick. It must have vertical bars spaced no more than 11 centimeters apart, or be solid and opaque. It must also include a 10- to 15-cm-high toe board, a handrail, and an intermediate rail at mid-height. Violating these regulations can result in a fine of up to 15,000 \u20ac, but more importantly, it can lead to falls.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A roof can easily become a high-quality living space when the right conditions for its development are met.
